Who we are

Daystrom Studios is a small software studio based in Manchester, England, run by Tim McKnight as a sole trader - Daystrom Studios is our trading name. We make iOS apps and run this website.

For UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), we are the "controller" of personal data collected through our website and apps. You can reach us at hello@daystromstudios.com.

What this policy covers

This policy covers three things:

1. Our website, daystromstudios.com
2. Our iOS apps, starting with the Mortgage Overpayment Tool
3. Any future apps, which will follow the same approach unless we say otherwise

Our website - what we collect

The website is static: plain HTML and CSS on shared hosting. It has no user accounts, no comments, and no analytics.

The only way personal data reaches us is the contact form, which opens an email to hello@daystromstudios.com. When you write to us we receive:

• your email address, so we can reply
• your name, if you include one
• whatever you put in the message

Please do not send sensitive personal information (health, finances of a personal nature, and similar) by this route. We do not need it and do not want to hold it.

Our hosting provider (Fasthosts, UK-based) processes basic technical logs, such as IP address and request details, as part of serving the site. We do not use these logs for profiling and we do not buy advertising against them.

Our iOS apps

Our first app is the Mortgage Overpayment Tool. The same approach will apply to future apps.

• Your calculations and settings are stored on your device only. They are not sent to us or to anyone else.
• There are no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising.
• We do not receive your payment details. One-time unlock purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store (see "Purchases" in our Terms of Service).
• Apple may process purchase and device data under its own systems and privacy policy. That is between you and Apple; we do not receive copies of your payment data.

If a future app ever collects data off the device, we will update this section and the App Store listing before release.

What we never do

• We do not sell personal data.
• We do not run advertising in our apps.
• We do not add you to a mailing list without asking you first, and there is no mailing list yet.

Why we process personal data (lawful bases)

• To reply to enquiries you send us: legitimate interests (responding to people who contact us) or consent where you have asked us to do something specific.
• To keep a record of correspondence for our own reference: legitimate interests.
• To comply with legal obligations, such as tax or consumer law where relevant: legal obligation.

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling, and we do not process special category data.

Cookies and analytics

The website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. If that ever changes, we will ask for consent before any non-essential cookies are set, as PECR requires, and update this section.

Data retention

• Contact emails: kept only as long as needed to handle the enquiry, then deleted. Deleted within 12 months of our last contact.
• Hosting logs: deleted by our host on their normal schedule. We do not rely on them; Fasthosts keep them for a short period under their own retention policy.
• App data: stored on your device. Deleting the app deletes the data. We hold no copy.

Sharing data

We do not sell, rent, or share personal data with third parties for their own purposes. The only processors involved are:

• Fasthosts (website hosting and email handling), UK-based
• Apple, for App Store purchases and app distribution, under Apple's own systems

International transfers

Our website and email run on UK-based infrastructure. However, the providers behind the App Store (Apple) and, if ever used, Google services run infrastructure outside the UK, so limited data may be processed there. Where that happens, transfers rely on the provider's own safeguards, such as the UK addendum to standard contractual clauses or UK adequacy regulations. We do not send your personal data to other countries ourselves. See Apple's Privacy Policy for how Apple handles App Store data.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:

• give you a copy of the personal data we hold about you (access)
• correct anything inaccurate (rectification)
• delete it (erasure)
• restrict how we use it (restriction)
• stop using it where our basis is legitimate interests or public task (objection)
• send it to you or another provider in a portable format (portability)
• withdraw consent at any time where consent is our basis

Email hello@daystromstudios.com to exercise any of these. We will respond within one month. We do not charge a fee and may only refuse or reduce a request where the law allows.

Complaining to the ICO

You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office if you think we have mishandled your data. We would rather you came to us first so we can fix it, but you do not have to.

ICO registration status

The ICO's data protection fee self-assessment, checked in September 2026 and confirmed for publication on 6 September 2026, indicates that a business of our size and processing profile does not have to pay the data protection fee and does not need to notify the ICO that it is exempt. We will re-check this annually and if how we process data changes.

Security

The website runs over HTTPS and email access is limited to us. App data never leaves your device unless you back it up through Apple's own device backups, which Apple handles. No system is perfectly secure, but we keep what we hold to a minimum, which is the best protection available.

Children

Our website and apps are not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect children's personal data. If you believe a child has sent us their details, email us and we will delete them.

Changes to this policy

We will post any changes on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. If a change is significant, for example because a new app collects data, we will say so plainly on the page.

These terms apply to the Daystrom Studios website (daystromstudios.com) and to our iOS apps. By using the website or an app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the website or the app.

Who we are

Daystrom Studios is a software studio based in Manchester, England: a trading name of Tim McKnight, a sole trader. Contact: hello@daystromstudios.com.

Part 1 - Website use

You may browse the website freely. You may not:

• attempt to break into, overload, or disrupt the site or its hosting
• scrape or copy the site wholesale for republication
• use the site for unlawful purposes

The site is provided for information. Nothing on it is legal, financial, or professional advice.

Part 2 - iOS app licence (EULA)

This section covers our iOS apps, starting with the Mortgage Overpayment Tool.

Apple standard EULA. Applications made available through the App Store are licensed, not sold, and are subject to Apple's standard End User Licence Agreement (EULA). When you download one of our apps, you accept the Apple standard EULA and the licence it grants. This document does not restate or replace the Apple EULA; where this document says nothing different, the Apple EULA governs. Permitted devices. You may use the app on any Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms.

Local data. The app stores your inputs and calculations on your device only. You are responsible for keeping your own backups; if you delete the app, its data goes with it.

Updates. We may issue updates through the App Store. You are not obliged to install them, but older versions may stop working correctly on newer versions of iOS.

Termination. The licence lasts until you or we end it. We can end it if you fail to follow these terms. On termination, stop using the app and delete it.

Part 3 - Purchases

Some apps are freemium: the core app is free, and a one-time in-app purchase unlocks the full feature set.

• The purchase is a one-time unlock. There is no subscription, and we charge no recurring fees.
• Payment, billing, and delivery of the unlock are handled by Apple through your App Store account. We never see your card details.
• Refunds are governed by Apple's policy. Request refunds from Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com or via your purchase history in the App Store). Apple may refund at its discretion, for example where a purchase was accidental, does not work as described, or was made without your consent. We cannot issue refunds ourselves and will point you to Apple if you ask us directly.
• If you bought an unlock and it is not appearing on a device, contact us at hello@daystromstudios.com and we will help you restore it through the App Store's restore mechanism.

Part 4 - No warranty

The website and the apps are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, except where the law does not allow that exclusion.

In particular:

• Mortgage and overpayment calculations are estimates for information only. They are not regulated financial advice, are not a mortgage offer, and do not account for your full circumstances, your lender's terms, early repayment charges, or tax. Check with your lender or a qualified adviser before making financial decisions.
• We do not promise the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit every purpose.

Consumers in the UK keep statutory rights, including under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, that cannot be excluded. Nothing in these terms limits those rights.

Part 5 - Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows:

• We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for loss of profit, data, or goodwill.
• Our total liability arising from the website or an app is limited to the amount you paid us for the app in question, or GBP 50 if you paid nothing.

Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit.

Part 6 - Acceptable use

When using the website or an app, do not:

• break the law
• infringe anyone's rights, including intellectual property
• upload or transmit malicious code
• try to access systems, accounts, or data you are not entitled to
• reverse engineer the app except where that is permitted by law

Part 7 - Intellectual property

The website, the apps, and all their content, design, code, and branding are owned by Daystrom Studios or its licensors. App Store distribution gives you a licence to use an app on permitted devices; it does not transfer ownership. You may not copy, adapt, or redistribute the apps or site content beyond what the Apple EULA and copyright law permit.

Part 8 - Third-party services

The apps depend on Apple's App Store and device systems, and the website on Fasthosts hosting. Those providers have their own terms and policies. We are not responsible for their acts or omissions, but nothing here reduces our own obligations to you.

Part 9 - Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when a new app is released. The current version is always published on this page with a "Last updated" date. Material changes will be described plainly on the page or in the app's release notes.

Part 10 - Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not affect mandatory consumer rights in your country of residence, including Scotland and Northern Ireland, where you live there.
